Artist in Residence at Care for the Carers

During 2025 Alison was Artist in Residence at Care for the Carers, a Sussex charity supporting and representing local carers. She designed and delivered the Arts in Nature project, a programme of 17 creative days in nature, attended by 82 carers and young carers, including painting, monoprinting, ceramics, charcoal making, working with willow, creative stitch, wood skills, wreath making, fermentation and foraging.

These sessions provided respite for carers, allowing them to take time out for themselves, connecting with others with similar experiences. The activities were designed to be accessible, enjoyable and free of charge to carers.

“The most peaceful three hours I’ve ever had, and all to myself! I didn’t know how healing it could be and how rare it was. Thank you for giving me the space to sit  – and for long enough for my nervous system to relax enough for my brain and heart to be inspired again. Whenever I’m stressed I use the memory as a calming happy place to go back to.”

This project was generously funded by the Lund Trust, High Weald National Landscape Partnership and the John Jackson Charitable Trust.
