This short Monday – Friday break includes painting, sketching, visits to the cultural highlights of Athens, and dining together in a relaxed and inclusive group. Suitable for complete beginners as well as seasoned painters. We will be in the capable and expert hands of Helle from Discover Kalymnos with painting tuition and creative mentoring from Alison.

Itinerary

• Monday 7th April Travel day. Arrive in Athens and check in to the hotel
• Tuesday 8th April A day at the Acropolis Museum. A gentle 15 minute walk brings us to this world class Museum, built to house the Parthenon Marbles. In the morning we will have a two hour tour by a licensed guide, giving us an overview of the history of Athens. We spend the afternoon sketching in the museum, with guidance and tuition from Alison. Evening meal together at the hotel.
• Wednesday 9th April Morning: Art demo and guidance from Alison at the hotel, followed by drawing and painting Athenian life at the Flea Market of Monastiraki. Afternoon: a comfortable cafe with a view of the Acropolis will provide us with subject matter for painting. Evening: dinner together in a rooftop restaurant in the Plaka.
• Thursday 10th April Visit the Acropolis site to sketch one of the Wonders of the World. We will start with a demo from Alison, then have at least 3 hours at the site. After a lunch break, we regroup at the hotel to review the works produced during the holiday. Evening: rooftop cocktails then dinner in the square of Monastiraki for a traditional meal at the Gyros restaurants.
• Friday 11th April Departure day. Travel home or continue to holiday if you decide to do so.

Cost of the holiday

€540 per person, to include:

• Art tuition from Alison
• Guidance for the whole trip from Helle
• All museum tickets
• Guided tour of the Acropolis Museum
• 3 evening meals and cocktails on the last night

Non painting friends or partners will pay €250 to include all of the above.

Not incuded:

• Hotel. Our rooms at the Phidias Hotel will be booked for us by Helle. The cost will be €120/night for a double room with a balcony, or €100/night for a standard double room. The price is the same for single occupancy.
• Flight (book yourself)
• Transfer from Athens Airport (can be group-booked by Helle if enough are travelling together
